Why Libya’s Skhirat agreement disappeared from international arenas?

The final statement of the ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York didn’t mention the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) signed in Skhirat in 2015 nor the Government of National Accord as a internationally recognized body, yet it only referred to all as Libyan political parties.

This avoidance of mentioning the Skhirat bodies raises questions about whether or not things have changed and the foundations for a political solution to the crisis have altered.

Are the external parties changing course regarding the basis for a political solution in Libya? A question everyone raises.

This question was raised by all those who read the final statement of the ministerial meeting chaired by France and Italy and attended by many countries, including China, Turkey and Egypt.

This shift shows the desire of the stakeholders to find another route for the solution in Libya with a more solid approach than that coming from the Skhirat LPA, which has had many stages aimed at finding a solution in the last years, thus becoming irrelevant now to the new status quo on the ground.
