Italy seeks a bigger US role in Libya

The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, is meeting his Italian counterpart in Rome on Tuesday to discuss different issues, including Libya’s crisis.

Observers believe that Libya is going to be top on the agenda of the meeting between the two officials amid heavy airstrikes by US Africa Command against ISIS militants in southern Libya.

The Italian Foreign Minister said earlier that what is needed from Donald Trump is support for the Italian strategy to prevail peace in Libya.

Reports from Italy said that Rome is hoping to have a bigger role for the US to resolve the crisis in Libya, including the illegal immigration flow via Libya, which is bothering Italy and Europe.

Pompeo is scheduled to visit after Rome counties like Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro.
