Egyptian court postpones ruling against Ashmawi

Nearly five months have passed since the General Command of the Libyan National Army handed over the terrorist Hisham Ashmawi to Egyptian authorities. Cairo Criminal Court decided to delay the verdict to next December regarding Ashmawi and 200 other terrorists from Bayt Al-Maqdis Terrorist Organization for the 54 crimes they are charged with.

The charges include assassinations of police officers and attempt to assassinate the former Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim, in addition to explosions targeting state security institutions.

Ashmawi’s arrest was a fatal blow to the terrorist groups in the region as he was a senior leader and had strong relations with terrorists in Libya supporting him with arms and ammunition to target specific security locations in Egypt and Libya. He is also described as a linking point to ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Ansar Al-Sharia.

Ashmawi has carried out lots of terrorist attacks since he surfaced to the public in 2013 after an attack on the convoy of former Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim and them leading attacks on Egyptian security forces in Qayloubiya, bombing Dahliqiya security directorate and others.

In October 2018, the beginning of the end for Ashmawi started as the Libyan National Army announced arresting him inside Derna in eastern Libya – described at the time as a precious hunt – since he was connected with Libyan and foreign terrorists aiming to destabilize Egypt and Libya and all countries fighting terrorism.
