UN Secretary General warns Libya is facing dangerous threat

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Libya is facing a real threat as terrorist organizations are deep-rooted across the whole country.

Guterres added in his statement at the Security Council that there are terrorist networks across Libya and North Africa from the coast to Chad to Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mozambique, adding that this battle against terrorism is not being won by the international community.

The UN Secretary General added that the ramifications of Libya’s conflict are having an impact on the entire region due to the security deterioration that allowed armed groups to move freely across borders.

He added that the UNSMIL is working in Libya to resolve complications among local parties and regional stakeholders to avoid any more escalations and to trigger back the political process.

These remarks came in an open Security Council session entitled: “Peace and Security in Africa: The Centrality of Preventative Diplomacy, Conflict Prevention and Resolution” at the invitation of South Africa which chairs the council this month.
