Haftar: Saif Gaddafi and Libya’s presidency don’t concern me

The General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar has commented on the news that Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was willing to run for president of Libya, saying he is a Libyan citizen and if the legal conditions are met, it is his natural right for him to participate in the elections.

Haftar added in an interview with Russian news agency, Sputnik, that he won’t play the role of a supporter or opponent of any elections’ candidates as long as they are practicing their legal rights as voters would be the ones to decide.

“I do not know where he is now and there is no communication between us, but this, of course, doesn’t mean any disagreement or enmity.” Haftar said about whether or not he communicated with Saif Gaddafi.

Haftar told Sputnik that his enemies are the terrorists, and everyone who carries arms against the citizens, attacks the sanctity of the people, preys on their dignity, loots the wealth of Libyans and jeopardises the safety of the country.

The General Commander said he does not currently consider running for president, as the climate in the country is not yet ready for the election, adding that the question of his candidacy for the presidency or not is not his current concern at all.

Field Marshal Haftar stressed that Libya needs to establish security, stability and ends the authority of armed groups so that the way can be paved for a permanent constitution and then transparent elections.
