African Union: Berlin conference can’t succeed without Libyan neighboring countries

The peace and security commissioner of the African Union Ismail Sharqi has criticized the organizers of Berlin conference for not inviting neighboring countries of Libya to it or even to its preparatory meetings.

Sharqi told Sputnik on the margins of Sochi summit in Russia that it is vital that Algeria, Egypt, and Sudan as well as other neighboring countries are invited to the upcoming Berlin international conference on Libya since they are all impacted by the ongoing conflict in the country.

Meanwhile, Sharwi said earlier that the African Union didn’t give a final confirmation on whether or not it would attend Berlin conference, which is scheduled for next November with reports saying it could be pushed even further to early 2020.
