Germany looks for assurances before convening Berlin conference on Libya

Berlin Conference on Libya is now the hot topic being discussed by all Libyan politicians and neighboring countries as the statement of the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas made it clear that the conference will be hosting all parties without any exclusion so crucial outcomes can result from it.

The German Foreign Minister said the final statement of the upcoming Berlin international conference on Libya won’t be issued before reaching a complete accord among all the participants, adding that inviting the permanent member states of the Security Council to the conference commits them to its results.

Maas also said that some counties had been invited to attend the conference so that they ensure the military supplies to Libya are halted and that intervention in the country’s conflict is blocked.

He indicated in a presser with the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame that Germany isn’t going to exclude any party or stakeholders from the conference in Berlin.

Maas also met with the Tunisian President Kais Saied in Carthage. They discussed Berlin conference preparations so that the two countries have a shared vision to find a political solution in Libya.

Libyan and international stakeholders are awaiting now the kickoff of the conference negotiations, expected early in next November, for ending the Libyan crisis.
