The Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio arrived Tuesday morning in Tripoli and met with the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and several Government of National Accord officials.
Di Maio is going to head afterwards to Benghazi to meet with the Commander of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and then to Tobruk to meet with the Speaker of House of Representatives Aquila Saleh.
This is the first time the Italian Foreign Minister visits Libya since he came to office in last September.
According to Italy’s news agency, Nova, the visit of Di Maio aims to reach a unified stance regarding the Libyan crisis.
Meanwhile, Aki news agency said the Italian top diplomat will focus on the current conflict, Berlin conference, Italian-Libyan Immigration MoU and other central issues.
