Bashagha: We requested Turkish intervention in Libya and will form tripartite alliance

The Interior Minister-designate of the Government of National Accord Fathi Bashagha said the Presidential Council had requested military support from Turkey to hinder the advances of the Libyan National Army on the city center of Tripoli.

“We have been surprised by the LNA advance on Tripoli in April, but we will exercise our right to defend our government.” Bashagha said on Thursday.

He added that the military support to be provided by Turkey to the GNA will target the mercenaries whom he alleges are recruited by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

“The confusion of the international community toward Libya is clear. Some countries are trying to manipulate the international stance toward the GNA. The international community is contradictory between legitimacy and deals behind the scenes.” Bashagha added.

He also revealed details of huge cooperation with Turkey, Tunisia and Algeria to form an alliance with the GNA to secure the North African region against all threats.

Bashagha also said that Berlin conference on Libya may not take place because some parties refuse the political solution, referring to the General Command of the LNA, saying the GNA is open to political solutions.
