Algerian Member of Parliament: We won’t get involved in interventions in Libya

The Algerian member of Parliament Ameera Selim said it is highly unlikely that there will be a future military alliance by Algeria, Turkey and Tunisia to back up the Government of National Accord, saying such a measure would be a violation of the Algerian constitution and the Army’s codes.

The Algerian MP told Arabi 21 that she rejects military intervention in Libya but she supports Libya amid the ongoing conflict and the chaos that has been raging on for years, saying Algeria will work through diplomacy to help Libya.

The MP added that Algeria is opposed to sending troops to any country as it would escalate the situation, saying the same methods will be applied to the Libyan crisis.

She indicated that Algeria is fully aware of the consequences of any intervention in a country’s internal affairs and how it badly affects regional crises.
