LNA controls Sirte, Interim Government forms steering council in its municipality

The Libyan Interim Government has formed a steering council for Sirte municipality of five members: Salim Amer Emhemed, Abdelali Hiblo, Fathi Aburawi, Al-Senoussi Al-Daiki, Faraj Ibrahim.

The Interim Government said the steering council will take office starting Tuesday after the Libyan National Army forces took control of Sirte in a lightening and bloodless attack on Monday as forces securing Sirte were divided between surrender and withdrawal.

Sirte residents have welcomed the control of LNA forces over the city, describing their entrance to Sirte as “historical moment”.

The residents said in a statement following the control of the LNA over Sirte, “The city was freed from the Muslim Brotherhood”, rejecting the Turkish intervention in Libya.
