Tunisia rejects use of its territory by Turkey for military intervention

The media adviser of the Tunisian Presidency Rachida Al-Nifer, said Tunis rejects the use of its land as military bases for the Turkish intervention in Libya.

Al-Nifer said the response of President Kais Saied was very clear from the beginning when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed using Tunisian land in his recent visit to Tunis.

She added that Tunisia rejected any foreign intervention in Libya and didn’t change its stance after the Turkish proposal.

She also indicated that negotiations are still ongoing regarding whether or not Tunisia will participate in Berlin conference on Libya, denying that there is a rejection to the participation of Tunisia.

On December 25, Erdogan visited Tunisia with a delegation that included the Defense Minister, Foreign Minister and Intelligence Chief to meet with Kais Saied.

Tunisian civil societies and politicians as well as ordinary activists organized sit-in at the Turkish Embassy headquarters in Tunis to reject its interference in Libya and the use of Tunisian land for sending convoys of terrorists.

The Tunisian Presidency issued at the time a statement reiterating that Saied was keen on the sovereignty of Tunisia, saying there was no intention for Tunis to enter any alliances in the region.
