UN urges Security Council members to have unified stance on Libya

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on the member states of the Security Council to reach a unified and strong stance toward Libya’s crisis.

This comes as the 5+5 military commission talks concluded in Geneva as part of the military track proposed by the UN, coupled with the political and economic tracks.

Meanwhile, Russia vetoed on Wednesday the UK resolution at the Security Council on Libya, because it included the word “mercenaries”.

The spokesman for the Secretary General said that both Guterres and the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame are waiting for a unified stance toward Libya.

The spokesman added in New York that Guterres needed the neighboring countries of Libya to support the efforts for finding a solution to the conflict at this new phase of negotiations.
