UN envoy to Libya says peace needs compromise, while war is destructive

The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame, stressed that peace requires compromise, recognition, acceptance, listening and sharing of others’ sorrows and fears.

Salame said, in a message addressed to the participants in a training course organized by the United Nations Development Fund entitled “Towards a national reconciliation in Libya”, from Geneva, that the mission and the mission’s staff always call for peace, noting that the call for peace is one of the most difficult calls, unlike advocating violence.

Salame added that war is an act, and peace is an act, which requires permanent care. Therefore, war is destructive and peace is constructive and both are actions.

“Peace does not take place only between the advocates of politics and the campaigners for the guns. Peace is a matter that must prevail in all segments of society.” He added.
