The former Libyan ambassador to the United Nations, Ibrahim Al-Dabbashi, said that – up to this point – there are no names nominated for the post of UN envoy to Libya after Ghassan Salame has requested that he be relieved of his duties.
Al-Dabbashi told 218News that Salame will continue in his position until the replacement is found, adding that the resignation of Salame came suddenly and the United Nations was not prepared for it.
Meanwhile, the former Libyan ambassador to the United Nations indicated that finding a replacement for Salame would take several weeks or months, as it is very difficult to find someone who would accept dealing with the Libyan crisis, which he described as “burning”, and then gain consensus of the permanent members of the Security Council.
