US, South Africa discuss solutions to Libya’s conflict

The United States has affirmed its willingness to work with South Africa, which is chairing the African Union currently, to support United Nations-led efforts to resolve the conflict in Libya.

The US embassy in Libya said on Facebook that the American ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, and the deputy charge d’affaires of the US embassy in South Africa, Ian McCurry, held a fruitful meeting with representatives of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation in Pretoria, South Africa.

They reiterated that it is the political policy of South Africa to confirm the US desire to work with South Africa – as the new president of the African Union – to support the United Nations-led efforts to resolve the Libyan conflict.

Meanwhile, the meeting coincides with a visit by the Head of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj to South Africa.
