GNA Interior Ministry: Coronavirus could enter Libya via Cham Wings flights

The Interior Ministry of the Government of National Accord issued a statement Wednesday, warning that it is dangerous to operate flights between Damascus and Benghazi via Cham Wings Airliner, as passengers are coming from a country infected with the Coronavirus.

The statement indicated that these trips that are run by military investment take place through Cham Wings Company, which is listed on the US sanctions list, and it also gives Syrians entry visas without obtaining the approval of the Passports, Nationality and Foreign Affairs Authority that is concerned with granting visas.

The statement said that GNA Interior Ministry had information about the arrival of a number of Syrian fighters and experts associated with the Russian “Wagner Group” and elements of Hezbollah, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, saying that they had been mixed with a number of Iranians who are already controlling the Syrian capital, Damascus, according to the statement.

It called on commercial banks in the eastern region not to deal with Cham Wings Company, calling on citizens to take precautions against dealing with people who recently arrived on these “suspicious” flights because they may be infected with the coronavirus.

The statement called on the UN mission and the Security Council sanctions team to document these acts, which it described as “in violation of Security Council resolutions” related to Libya, calling for punishing the perpetrators in accordance with international law.
