US supports Libya with $6 million in assistance amid Coronavirus concerns

The US embassy in Libya announced on Saturday that the US will provide 6 million dollars in additional humanitarian aid to Libya in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The embassy said, in a statement, that these funds will help health officials to prevent the spread of the epidemic and to respond to the needy who have contracted the disease or are more likely to contract the disease, adding that this step shows the role of the United States in confronting the Coronavirus and its humanitarian concern.

The US embassy pointed out that this assistance is added to decades of American efforts to invest in the Libyan health sector and comprehensive development, which is mainly implemented through the United States Agency for International Development, explaining that the United States has invested more than $715 million in total aid to Libya over the past twenty years.

The statement pointed out that since 2009, America has provided more than $100 billion in health aid and about $70 billion in humanitarian aid worldwide.
