Libya Coronavirus cases increase to 8 in total

The Libyan National Center for Disease Control announced Sunday the registration of five new Coronavirus cases following the case in the city of Misrata, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients to eight.

The center said in a statement that the five cases tested positive after examining 12 samples of people in contact with the woman tested positive on Saturday in Misrata.

The National Center for Disease Control said five positive samples were detected and the remaining seven samples tested negative.

The center registered Saturday two new cases in Misrata and Tripoli. Libya recorded the first Coronavirus case last Tuesday: a 73-year-old man, who entered the country on March 5 from Saudi Arabia via Tunisia.

After registering the first case, the Minister of Health of the Government of National Accord and the Chairman of the High Committee to confront the Coronavirus pandemic, Dr. Ahmed bin Omar, called on Libyans to take the necessary precautions and adhere to the preventive measures issued by the Ministry of Health and the National Center for Disease Control.
