Coronavirus in Libya: Fighters disinfect frontlines and keep fighting!

Despite repeated calls to stop the fighting in Libya and focus efforts to combat the outbreak of Coronavirus, the conflict continues and the conflicting parties have only sanitized their fighters on the frontlines after providing disinfection kits to prevent the virus from making a massive spread.

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that Government of National Accord forces sent kits of personal protective equipment and supplies and distributed them to individuals on the frontlines, as per the orders of the joint operations room.

Meanwhile, a military source in the Libyan National Army told the newspaper that the forces positioned on the fronts were directed to take the necessary measures to prevent the virus, especially after mercenaries arrived to fight for the GNA.

This process raised questions about the fate of ending the conflict and the parties’ response to the continuous calls, especially those recent issued by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

The UN Secretary General’s call indicates that the fighting which entered its second year is still going on without taking into account the country’s urgent need to restore the deteriorated health and economic sector and unite all efforts to combat the virus that has made the world forget all other wars and focus on one war, that is: to eliminate Coronavirus by any means.
