First Coronavirus patient recovers in Libya, second case to follow soon

The Director General of the National Center for Disease Control Badr Al-Deen Al-Najjar announced officially on Monday evening the recovery of the first case of coronavirus in Libya.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdulnabi Al-Rayes, a doctor tackling new cases of coronavirus, said at a press conference for the Ministry of Health and the National Center; “We announce the recovery of the first case of the novel coronavirus, after confirming that two samples from the patient had tested negative at the community health reference laboratory of the National Center for Disease Control in Tripoli.”

The Director of the Emergency Department of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tawfiq Harisha, said the second case is also on the way for recovery, adding that the Ministry is awaiting results by the community health reference laboratory of the National Center for Disease Control.

He stated that mobile isolation rooms and personal protective equipment had been received from abroad, and the ministry had also prepared a new quarantine center with a capacity of 60 beds, which could be expanded with a capacity of 50 more beds.

Dr. Al-Rayes pointed out that, compared to other countries, the results of sample tests appear in a short time, as it only takes 3 hours, indicating that the Ministry of Health had allocated Zawiyet Al-Dahmani Complex to receive new suspected cases of Coronavirus in coordination with the monitoring and investigation teams of the National Center for Disease Control.

In the meantime, Al-Najjar emphasized at the press conference that social distancing and commitment to home quarantine are the first steps in reducing the spread of the Coronavirus.
