Source details what happened in Sorman after GNA’s entry

An exclusive source told 218News that the first day after GNA forces entered Sorman, the city had witnessed looting and thefts of private and public properties, including car galleries, for people supporting the Libyan National Army, in addition to some government headquarters.

The source indicated that these abuses are not comparable to what happened in the city of Sabratha, where the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Office was burned and cars were stolen, indicating that most of the killed persons on the first day were members of the defending battalions of the Libyan National Army, especially the Battalion 54.

According to the source, the second day witnessed a clear fear among the residents, as most of the shops were closed with GNA forces deployed at the traffic lights and on the main streets of the city.

On Wednesday, the source pointed out that he had witnessed an uneasy calm, as a few shops and bakeries opened their doors with crowded queues.

“Sorman Security Directorate, which was not affected by the fire like what happened to the Security Directorate of Sabratha, has returned to work. There are now members of the Traffic Department on the streets with some cars of Al-Zawiya Security Directorate.” The source added.

He pointed out that military leaders affiliated with GNA forces promised the people of Sorman to form a committee based in the city of Al-Zawiya and its mission will be to punish the individuals who have carried out thefts in Sorman, where some cars were actually returned to the owners.

Regarding the prison break incident, the source stated that there are conflicting reports about the inmates being smuggled with the withdrawing army forces, or that they were released from prison by the GNA forces who entered the city, but what is certain is that the prisoners who had been freed were under ongoing investigation.
