LNA declares cessation of military operations during Ramadan

The General Command of the Libyan National Army announced on Wednesday evening the cessation of all military operations during the holy month of Ramadan, warning that any breach of the truce will be responded to by LNA forces.

The General Command said in a statement, read by spokesman Ahmed Al-Mismari, that the cessation of military operations comes in response to the “brotherly and friendly” countries.

Al-Mismari said, in a press conference held on Wednesday evening in Benghazi, that the commander of the army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar decided to respond to the demands of the international community and friendly countries to give a humanitarian truce in the month of Ramadan, welcoming efforts to help Libyans to overcome the crisis.

He stressed the right of the LNA to respond to any threat or suspicious movement or any maneuver by the Government of National Accord forces.

Al-Mismary indicated that Haftat reaffirmed that the LNA remained committed to the achievement of the goal of “eliminating terrorism, dismantling militias, collecting illegal weapons and exacting the law over all Libyan lands.”
