WHO: Libya is in the first stage of Coronavirus pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on health authorities in Libya to be vigilant in the face of the serious health threat posed by Coronavirus in the country.

The representative of the World Health Organization in Libya, Elizabeth Hoof, said that now is not the time to reduce caution, adding that the low numbers being reported should not deceive them into a false sense of safety because Libya is in the early stages of the pandemic and has not yet reached the peak of infection.

WHO recommended that the health authorities in Libya increase the test capabilities by establishing an additional laboratory in the south and extending the scope of tests to include patients suffering from influenza-like illnesses and acute respiratory infections, indicating that it will be necessary to provide adequate and regular supplies of testing.

The Representative noted that improving disease monitoring and verification, including among immigrants, is an important tool for report the response to the pandemic.
