Report: Turkey recruits underaged Syrians and sends them as mercenary fighters to Libya

218News has obtained an exclusive report revealing Turkey’s recruitment of underage Syrians as mercenaries in Libya to support Government of National Accord forces to fight the Libyan National Army forces in and around Tripoli.

The report, “Syrians for Freedom and Justice”, which will be published on Monday, includes testimonies of the organization’s sources on the ground in Syria and Libya, and details about the recruitment process of Syrian teenagers, which is done through the issuance of false identity documents and fabricated information on the date and place of their birth, thus; they are recorded in the personal status records of what it is known as the Syrian National Army. The report states that some children used the names of their older brothers in their forged papers.

A salary of 3000 dollars

A Syrian organization that works to document human rights violations in Syria, quoted one of its sources, a civilian in the Al-Husson area of the Euphrates, which is occupied by Turkey in northern Syria, as saying that one of the leaders of the Al-Mutasim division came to his store with three children between the ages of 15 and 16 and told him that they would go to Libya with the approval of their families, adding that they were very happy to receive a salary of 3000 dollars according to the promises they received from their leaders. He added that those children were receiving training in a camp established by the Al-Mutasim division in groups of 25 people, and they were told that they can contact their families from Libya and return to their homes within three months with big money.

Mercenary children on the fronts

The report also cited a member of the Sultan Murad Brigade, which is staunchly loyal to Turkey, as saying that a mercenary of his squad in the capital, Tripoli, currently confirmed to him that there were at least five children under the age of 18 fighting in his group, while the organization indicated that a new batch of child soldiers were recently being prepared to be sent to Libya, citing a source for the organization in the city of Marea, in northern Syria, who witnessed the preparation of a number of children to be transported to Libya.

Violations of human rights and domestic and international laws continue with the continued flow of foreign mercenaries to Libya in support of the conflicting parties in a proxy war that did nothing but threaten the lives of the Libyan people and increased their suffering and crises.
