From Istanbul to Misrata: 218News unveils story behind the new Coronavirus case

A new case of Coronavirus in Libya. This news appears normal and nothing out of the ordinary, but what is strange and illogical is how this particular case occurred? And why? Who is responsible? Was it impossible to avoid this particular COVID-19 case?

218News has obtained the details of the story behind this Coronavirus case, with facts, events, names and dates, so that the public opinion and the concerned authorities can both be alerted.

218News has learned that the person who has been tested positive for Coronavirus is from the family of Firas Al-Wahshi, who was killed during his participation in the Government of National Accord’s forces attack on Al-Watiya airbase on May 5. Al-Wahshi family is one of the families who returned from Turkey to Misrata Airport, under the supervision of the Head of the High Council of State, Khalid Al-Mishri.

According to the two statements issued by the Libyan Consul General in Turkey and head of the Higher Committee for Crisis Management and Response in the Municipality of Misrata, Al-Mashri took responsibility for the return of Al-Wahshi family from Istanbul without a PCR test, saying it would be carried out upon arrival at Misrata Airport, but what happened was that the family left the airport and went directly to their home. The airport authorities sufficed in confiscating their passports so they can carry out the test later.

Afterwards, a statement was issued stating that nine Libyans arrived from Turkey in Misrata without conducting a PCR test for them and only taking a sample from them to conduct a test later, with confiscating their passports only, which was considered by the Head of the Supreme Committee for Crisis and Response Management in the Misrata Municipality as a violation of the procedures followed for returning the stranded, adding that it was a reckless conduct that endangered the health and safety of Libyans.

After more than 10 days have passed since this arrival, specifically on Saturday, May 16, the Health Emergency Management Department at the Ministry of Health of the GNA, issued a warning to Libyans who returned to the country on May 5 to quickly go to the Zawiyet Dahmani Clinics Complex to conduct a PCR test.

The Zawiyet Dahmani Complex stated that the infected person tested positive on last Thursday, ten days after his return from Turkey, and he suffered from minor symptoms and his condition was stable.

This controversial incident prompted political parties in the GNA, 218News has learned from reliable sources, to try with all their strength to pressure the Supreme Committee to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic into politicizing the incident so it gets removed from it’s intended health and national dimensions.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Mohammad Haythem, was seeking to “polish his image” and “better his position” at the expense of doctors, their efforts and fatigue amid the worst pandemic disaster facing human life.
