HoR Speaker discusses developments in Libya with Malta’s Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, discussed in a telephone conversation with Malta’s Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo and Maltese ambassador to Libya, Charles Saliba, the status quo in Libya.

According to a statement issued by the House of Representatives, Saleh discussed with the officials the situation in the region, especially the Turkish intervention in Libya and the Mediterranean region.

The spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blehiq, confirmed that the Maltese officials expressed their rejection of the agreement signed between Turkey and the Government of National Accord on security, military cooperation and border demarcation last November, indicating their rejection of Turkish intervention in the region.

It is noteworthy that Malta had announced a week ago its withdrawal from Operation IRINI of the European Union, which aims to monitor the UN arms embargo on Libya, because of calls on Malta to open its ports to migrants.
