UN is very close to naming a new envoy to Libya

Diplomatic sources reported that the United Nations is in the process of appointing former Ghanaian Foreign Minister Hanna Teteh, as a special envoy to Libya to succeed former envoy Ghassan Salame, who resigned from his post last March for health reasons.

The sources indicated, according to what was reported by the London-basef Al-Arab newspaper, that there was almost unanimity over the proposal of Hanna Teteh, but the spokesman for the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, Stéphane Dujarric, described appointing a new envoy in Libya as a complex issue and depends not only on the Secretary-General, but also on members of the United Nations and its Security Council.

The United Nations hopes it can reach a consensus regarding the candidacy of former Ghanaian Foreign Minister for the post of an envoy to Libya to contribute to ending the division that has been ongoing for years.
