Greece has announced that a new naval frigate (Spetsy) has joined the European Operation IRINI after the frigate (Hydra) has withdrawn for technical reasons.
Greek media indicated that Hydra was scheduled to join the European operation to monitor the international arms embargo on Libya in late May, but the Greek navy decided to replace it with the frigate (Spetsy) because Hydra was sent for maintenance after it had some technical problems.
Frigate Spetsy will operate alongside the IRINI fleet, which consists of a number of naval vessels and military aircraft provided by a number of European countries, headed by Italy, France and Greece, to monitor the arms embargo in Libya.
