218News unveils plan to reopen Libya’s largest oil field

An engineer working at the Sharara oilfield revealed in a statement to 218News Saturday the details of the reopening of the Hamada valve linking the Sharara field, the largest oil field in Libya and the port of Al-Zawiya, explaining the future work mechanism for the Sharara field responsible for pumping Libyan crude.

The engineer said that the technical teams reopened one of the valves at 4.00 in the morning, as the technical data showed that the valve was reopened before they re-closed the valve until the instructions for operation were issued, confirming that the experiments are carried out on a regular basis, explaining that the number of engineers is small in the field and does not help with operations at Station B and Station 186.

218News obtained exclusive information on production estimates in the event that Sharara oilfield is restarted soon, as the same source indicated that the field was producing between 290.000 and 300.000 barrels per day, and that the return of production will be at a strength of 50% gradually due to the deterioration of the infrastructure and the significant leakage in one of the major tanks.

The plan includes a gradual restart of the field during the first days and months until daily production reaches 55.000 barrels in the first stage, and 80.000 barrels per day will be added to it later, bringing the total production to 135.000 barrels and will continue to allocate 10.000 barrels of crude oil to the power plant in Ubari.

The source explained that the rest of the production, which is estimated at 155.000 barrels per day, needs months and a great effort from the technical teams of the operating company, Acacus and the National Oil Corporation, due to the closure that occurred since last January.
