LNA resumes military operations, spokesman confirms

The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, announced the start of military operations again, after the Government of National Accord had rejected the ceasefire initiative, indicating that the army would positively engage with international efforts, and would not stand idly by as it needs to protect Libyan soil and restore security and stability, threatening to use heavy airstrikes against armed groups.

Al-Mismari said, in a press conference from Benghazi on Monday, that the Turkish-backed “militias” committed war crimes against civilians in Tarhuna, from which more than 20,000 civilians fled due to the crimes they committed, noting that those “terrorist militias” committed another crime Monday by targeting safe areas west of the city of Sirte, confirming that the LNA had destroyed a convoy belonging to GNA.

Al-Mismari added that Turkish drones failed to achieve any air support for the GNA forces because of the LNA’s counterattacks, stressing that Turkey is using its membership in NATO to violate Libya’s sovereignty, but the LNA will continue to protect the Libyan soil.
