Details of shutting down Sharara oilfield

For the second time in a row, an armed group has shut down Sharara oil field and closed production for two consecutive days, according to what the National Oil Corporation announced late on Tuesday.

The Libyan NOC confirmed in a statement that the force majeure on Sharara oilfield continues, saying that oi production had been stopped at Sharara oilfield.

The National Oil Corporation issued a statement requesting the armed group to leave the field immediately and allow the return of work and production without any restriction or condition.

The Chairman of the National Oil Corporation Mustafa Sanalla denounced the acts of intimidating workers and tampering with the oil sector and the country’s oil installations, reaffirming the NOC’s commitment to the rule of law.

An engineer working at Sharara field told 218News that the armed group that entered the field and stopped the operations gave permission to the technical teams to restart after reaching an agreement after a meeting that lasted for hours with the field management.

The engineer added that the operational capacity of 35.000 barrels was not affected, and that the operations will return to how they were before, saying that production was resumed in 15 wells and on Thursday, production will increase by 20.000 new barrels, as the total production will reach 55.000 barrels per day.
