NATO dismayed at Russian activities in Libya

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance is upset and its members are concerned about Russia’s increasing military activities in Libya.

Stoltenberg made the remarks during his participation at the Brussels Forum, in which he stressed the “annoyance” of NATO of the policy of Russia in the eastern Mediterranean in general, and the increase of its military capabilities in Libya through warplanes and foreign fighters.

Stoltenberg added that the allies agreed on the need to closely monitor the situation and exchange intelligence, noting that the members of the NATO are also agreed on the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Libya, under the auspices of the United Nations.

On the issue of intercepting Turkish ships by a French vessel in the Mediterranean, Stoltenberg stressed that this matter belongs to two NATO members, noting that the two sides present two very different accounts about what happened, and that NATO military officials are still working to find out the details of the incident.
