El Sisi reiterates Egypt’s stance to contain Libya’s crisis

The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized the Egyptian position regarding containing the crisis in Libya by establishing a ceasefire and putting in place the necessary assurances to maintain it.

El-Sisi, who discussed developments in Libya with a number of ministers, called continuously for security in the Libyan state and its institutions, urging to preserve the resources of the Libyan people and safeguard the Egyptian national security on the western borders, according to the Egyptian presidential statement.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, had recently reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast stance on the Libyan crisis and worked to reach a political settlement in Libya.

Shoukry said, during his participation in the Arab League Council meeting via video, that the Cairo initiative came in line with the Berlin conclusions and the relevant international resolutions, stressing the success of all Berlin’s political and economic tracks, as well as the track of the Military Committee “5+5”.

He warned of the danger of the spread of terrorism in Libya, stressing that Egypt will not tolerate terrorism and its supporters, as well as foreign interventions that have deliberately moved foreign mercenaries and terrorists from Syria to Libya, which represents a threat to Arab national security, calling for Arab countries to join forces to put an end to those Shaking practices of regional and international peace and security.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed out the importance of working to restore the Libyan economy to its health through reforming the institutions under the authority of the House of Representatives, activating the Oil Corporation and the Central Bank in the context of transparency and equitable distribution of wealth and control of exchange aspects, indicating that it is one of the issues that will be discussed within the economic track that Egypt contributes to.
