Libyan HoR Speaker: I haven’t requested Egypt’s intervention, but it’s possible

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, explained that what he had previously said before the Egyptian parliament did not request an Egyptian interference, but rather reaffirmed the previous position and supported the Egyptian role and the Cairo Declaration.

In an interview with Al-Hurra channel, Saleh pointed out that the request for official intervention is very possible if the GNA and its ally Turkey reject the ceasefire initiatives and continue threatening cities and vital areas.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed that if GNA forces and allied groups crossed certain lines that pose a threat to the vital institutions in the country, he will be asked to intervene formally.

Saleh had welcomed the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s response to the council’s calls to support the national army in his war on terrorism and foreign interference, after the latter announced that Egypt’s intervention in Libya had become “legitimate” and his call for an immediate ceasefire.

He appreciated the mentality of the Egyptian President’s serious stance and his efforts to stop the ceasefire in Libya and the bloodshed through a political dialogue leading to satisfactory solutions, calling on the international community and the UN mission to activate the work of the outputs of the Berlin Conference and listen to the voice of peace contained in the Cairo Declaration.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives pointed out that Egypt is aware of the reality of the crisis in Libya and its impact on its security and stability, and reminded of the involvement of terrorist leaders who were controlling Benghazi and Derna in smuggling weapons and terrorists and carrying out terrorist operations in the Egyptian depth threatening Egypt’s sovereignty and security.
