Movement of Libyan Cities and Tribes announces reopening oil fields

The movement of the Libyan cities and tribes to protect oil resources, announced Monday the reopening of oil fields more than 5 months after their closure, which caused losses exceeding $6 billion, according to the National Oil Corporation.

“With our will, we opened the oil and we will shut it down if it is used again to kill and starve us,” the movement said in a statement read out at the Zueitina Oil Company.

The Movement decided to delegate the General Command to negotiate with the UN mission to Libya and the international community to find solutions to “the failure of oil revenues to fall into the hands of the militias.”

The movement pointed out that they had closed the production and export of oil to demand the international community and the United Nations to put in place a mechanism to ensure that oil revenues do not occur in the hands of “militias”, and that this resulted in high food prices, the rise of the dollar exchange rate, and the state’s inability to exchange the salaries of employees.

The movement stressed that “oil is for all Libyans, and the Libyan people have the right to benefit from their revenues to improve their living conditions and move forward to rebuild the country.”
