Over half a million immigrants have been impacted by Coronavirus pandemic in Libya

The latest IOM reports in Libya show that at least 6,25638 migrants from more than 44 countries are inside Libya, the majority of them (67%) from neighboring countries, led by Niger at an average of (128,953 migrants) and Chad (102,725 migrants) Egypt (102,700 migrants) and Sudan (75,967 migrants).

The organization says that the large presence of migrants from neighboring countries reflects the important impact of historical relations between societies across the Libyan border, and the role of geographical proximity in determining the dynamics of migration to Libya.

The largest number of migrants is concentrated in the western region in the city of Tripoli, followed by the city of Ijdabia in the eastern region, and then the city of Murzuq in the south. The WHO report indicates that analyzing the collected data highlights that migrants’ access to health services remains a major difficulty. About 70% of the migrants interviewed reported that their access to health services was limited or non-existent.

93% of migrants who depend on daily wages were affected by the stopping measures imposed by the Corona virus in Libya, which increases the suffering of migrants in the country, while the organization monitored the eight most important needs that migrants miss in Libya: “protection, food, housing, Health benefits, public health, materials other than food, legal aid, and security.
