218News reveals details of Turkish officials’ visit to Libya

An exclusive source told 218News that two Turkish Air Force helicopters landed on Friday evening at Mitiga Airport to transport Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Chief of General Staff Yasar Gular to the Turkish military frigate located off the Libyan coast.

The source added that the Turkish military delegation had spent the night in the frigate and then leave Saturday morning to Misurata to hold several meetings with officials in the city.

The Turkish Minister of Defense arrived Friday afternoon in the capital Tripoli, accompanied by the Turkish Chief of Staff, General Yasar Guler, on a visit that was not previously announced, while the Turkish Anadolu Agency stated that the two officials had visited the headquarters of the Military and Security Cooperation and Training Command in Tripoli, within the framework of the security memorandum of understanding signed between Turkey and the Government of National Accord (GNA).

In conjunction with this visit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that his country intends to continue to support the GNA with determination, adding that his defense minister is visiting Tripoli within the framework of the existing cooperation with the GNA to ensure closer coordination in the second visit of the Turkish Minister of Defense to Tripoli in less than a month. He visited Tripoli on 17 June with a high-ranking Turkish delegation.
