Russian moves to achieve a ceasefire agreement in Libya

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stressed that an immediate cessation of hostilities is necessary to resolve the current crisis in Libya.

Lavrov’s comments came during a video interview with the African Union’s Troika foreign ministers, which includes the Republic of Egypt, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to Sputnik, Lavrov said that “in practice, this can only be achieved by immediately ceasing hostilities and stopping attempts by each of the armed groups to go west and east in any direction.”

It is noteworthy that the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister had announced earlier that his country was communicating with all countries that may have an impact on the settlement of the situation in Libya through the United Nations, and that the multilateral interaction continues, including with the United States, indicating that the situation in Libya is very complex and difficult.
