218News reveals details of GNA cabinet reshuffle

A reliable source has confirmed to 218News that there is a prospective government amendment within the Government of National Accord, which includes assigning the Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha to the Ministry of Defense, after he held the post of Minister of the Interior since October 2018, succeeding Brigadier Abdel Salam Ashour.

The source said Monday that the cabinet reshuffle included the appointment of Major General Ibrahim Al-Shaqaf as a Minister of Interior to succeed Bashagha.

Al-Shaqaf was the deputy head of the Internal Security Agency in the capital, Tripoli, headed by Major General Rashid Al-Rajbani.

The source stated that the government amendment included the appointment of Hafez Kaddour as Minister of Foreign Affairs, succeeding Mohamed Al-Taher Siala, who held the position since the formation of the Government of National Accord in 2016.

It is noteworthy that the presidential council has appointed Hafez Kaddour as the Libyan ambassador to the European Union since 2019.

The source indicated to 218News that the reshuffle included the appointment of Mohamed Haitham as Minister of Health, after being the undersecretary of the Ministry of Health since late 2018.

The amendment included the assignment of Hisham Boshkewat as Minister of Transportation, after he held the position of Deputy Minister of Transportation for several years.
