Trump intensifies phone conversations with world leaders for solution in Libya

The US President Donald Trump has intensified this week his phone calls with the leaders of the regional countries concerned with the Libyan file and the repercussions of its crisis, which is indicating an imminent war, against the backdrop of unprecedented military build-up towards the city of Sirte from both sides of the conflict.

The beginning was with Trump’s contact with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, as the two sides agreed to work to ensure lasting stability in Libya as allies in the country, without forgetting the goal of a two-way trade between the two countries amounting to $100 billion.

Trump’s second contact with French President Emmanuel Macron was part of a discussion in which they discussed reducing tensions in Libya and the foreign military presence in it, the necessity to resume negotiations between the Libyan parties and the need to stop the military escalation immediately with the aim of preventing the Libyan conflict from turning into a more serious and unsolvable confrontation.

As for Arabs, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reviewed his country’s stance towards the Libyan crisis in a telephone conversation with his US counterpart, who expressed his understanding of what he called the Egyptian “concerns” related to the negative repercussions of the Libyan crisis on the region, praising the Egyptian efforts that would enhance the course of the political process in Libya.

Tuesday, Trump’s last contacts with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss regional security issues including the Libyan crisis, and according to the White House, the two parties discussed the importance of reducing escalation in Libya by removing foreign forces.
