Haftar decides to make legal response to cases filed against him in the US

A report by the Associated Press has revealed that the commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has decided to respond to cases brought against him in US courts accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Haftar’s lawyer sent a letter to the court saying that he had decided to respond to the charges against him in the two cases before the Federal Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

“Haftar realized that he must search for an exit strategy and a place to escape from the Libyan scene, and this explains the reason and timing for contracting with the law firm after many months of publicizing the case and accusations against him. ” Essa Omeish, the Head of the Libyan-American Alliance, said.

In a statement, the alliance said that the Marshal “hired a New York law firm: Tucker Line Law Firm, to legally represent him at the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. It is unclear if the same law firm will represent him in other legal cases.”
