Corruption accusations speak of differences among GNA officials

Corruption has torn apart the interconnectedness of the Presidential Council with its president, Fayez Al-Sarraj, so the statement of the second deputy in the Presidential Council, Ahmed Maitiq, which he published on his Facebook, and with him, a member of the Council, Abdul Salam Kagman, foreshadows imminent division and fissures within the corridors of reconciliation.

Opening an investigation

The story began with the emergence of the recent conflict with the second deputy in the council, Ahmed Maitiq, who called on the Libyan people to express their opinion and demand an investigation into the money that was spent, where it was spent, and the ways it was spent, and the low level of services caused by the authority of the absolute individual and his decisions that resulted in a decline in these services.

They called on Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha to protect the demonstrators and ensure that the demonstration does not deviate from its objectives.

Making individual decisions

In his vision, Maitiq was supported by a member of the Presidential Council, Abdul Salam Kagman, who wrote to Al-Sarraj two days ago, according to what activists circulated, criticizing his uniqueness in decisions, especially those related to the Investment Corporation, stressing that the president and secretaries of this institution are not limited to Al-Sarraj only, but also to the Cabinet.

Irresponsible remarks

The move of my presidential members was met with an attack by the commander of the Tripoli Military Region, Major General Abdel Basset Marwan, who directed a statement circulated by the pioneers of social networking sites describing Maitiq’s statements as irresponsible, which only serve “some internationally supported parties” and their project to undermine the “legitimacy of the Presidential Council” after their failure to succeed in Shoot it down militarily.

Exploiting mobility

The attack of the commander of the Tripoli Military Region was followed by an “urgent” telegram from the Director of the Military Intelligence Department, which was also circulated on the communication sites stating that he was preparing for a movement in the western region and Tripoli; Because of the various service problems, it will be exploited, after the increasing differences between the presidential members, by entities he described as hostile and foreign intelligence services, with the aim of bringing about a change that they could not do militarily, in reference to the military operations launched by the National Army in April 2019.

Maitiq’s statement and Kagman’s letter make clear that the Presidency Council is on the verge of a major rift. Who will stand with whom? Who will be on whom? At a time when the armed formations became after the last war more extensive and the living and security situation became more volatile than before.
