218News unveils latest Trump conversation with Erdogan

218News has learned from a senior diplomatic source that US President Donald Trump called on his Turkish counterpart, Recep Erdogan, to adopt calm in Libya and give an opportunity to moves led by Washington on the crisis.

This information comes in conjunction with a series of signals launched by the Trump administration last week, as the US announced it was going deeper into the Libyan conflict.

The source described the status of Turkish actions in Libya as passing through a phase of “stalemate”, apparently in response to the American request, but did not hide the presence of mobilization among the mercenaries, whether Russians, Syrians or Sudanese.

GNA is looking for what it wants in Turkey

About what is going on in the corridors of GNA under the umbrella of Turkey, the source talked about internal arrangements with the government in the direction of strengthening control over the joints of the state, and in this regard a number of its officials held a lengthy meeting with Turkish Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Emre, and are preparing to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal Thursday.

During the meeting, GNA officials requested that the Turks be consulted regarding the financial resources management file, without making any transfers, while financial dues from the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Accord were discussed.

Consultations in secret

The same source revealed correspondence and consultations taking place from under the table between low-level officials from Ankara and Cairo, during which the first did not reveal a clear position on the differences and was satisfied with routine responses without details, indicating Turkey’s awareness of Egypt’s role in Libya and the nature of its alliances in the region.

Macron is “time bomb” and confrontation is possible

The source said that France and Greece are not pushing for a diplomatic solution to the eastern Mediterranean problem, describing French President Emmanuel Macron as a “time bomb” placed within the European Union and NATO.

The source stressed that the option of confrontation with Ankara is possible, but Athens and Paris are aware of the consequences of this step.

Regarding the consequences of the confrontation, the source indicated that they will not stop at military losses only, but rather there is fear on both sides of the movement of the Turks in Germany, the Netherlands and the rest of the European Union, in addition to the economic situation of Greece and France. In return, it cannot be said that Turkey is living its best days economically, but it has reached a stage of self-sufficiency to achieve a kind of balance in this equation.

Moscow is manipulating and Germany is embarrassed

Regarding Moscow and Rome’s position on what is happening in Libya, the source said that they view the issue with a purely “economic eye”. Russia is playing on contradictions in order to achieve its first interest in Libya, represented in the gas trade, while all that Italy seeks is the return of its oil products flow from Eni fields in Libya as they were.

Germany stands perplexed between its desire to put an end to French President Emmanuel Macron, and to avoid aligning with Turkey for domestic political considerations, to remain in an embarrassing position among its European neighbors.
