NATO sends message to Turkey on Libya

The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg sent a letter to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, expressing his concern about tensions in the eastern Mediterranean over energy exploration rights in the region.

Stoltenberg stressed the commitment of NATO to the need for a political solution to the internal crisis in Libya.

The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, accused Turkey of seeking to destabilize the eastern Mediterranean, threatening the unity of NATO and Ankara’s relations with the European Union.

In a related context, the French Ministry of Defense had previously called on NATO to consider and deal with the recent Turkish actions in the region.
