GNA Interior Minister says Tripoli demonstrators have been subject to gunshots

The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord (GNA) issued Thursday a statement signed by the Minister of Interior “Fathi Bashagha” regarding the attack on the demonstrators, stating that (the ministry followed up on the incident of the attack on peaceful demonstrators on the night of Wednesday, August 26, 2020 by an armed group using their weapons and firing bullets indiscriminately using machine guns as well as heavy weapons, kidnapping some demonstrators and forcibly hiding them, plus causing panic among citizens, and threatening security and public order).

Bashagha confirmed at the outset of the ministry’s statement that the “Interior Ministry of the GNA” monitored these armed groups and their backup forces and the official authorities responsible for them and that it (is fully prepared to protect civilians from the oppression of a group of mobs who do not represent the honorable heroes of the Volcano of Rage (Burkan Al-Ghadab) and do not respect the blood and honor of innocent peaceful demonstrators).

GNA’s Interior Minister warned these armed groups against (attempting to harm the lives of the demonstrators or exposing them to terror or seizing freedom in violation of the law, adding that security forces may be forced to use force to protect civilians, as they are able to do so in accordance with moral, national and legal duties towards the Libyan people).

“There is no legitimacy for those who violate the dignity of the citizens, and we will never allow the blood of Libyans to be wasted or neglect the protection of their constitutional rights in peaceful protest according to the law”. Bashagha added.
