Turkey is adopting escalation and tension policy in Eastern Mediterranean

The policy of fait accompli and bringing differences to the farthest point is what Turkey has practiced in a clear and direct way in the last months in the eastern Mediterranean region.

This policy is practically represented, or one aspect of it, is rather represented in what Turkey announced that it would launch military maneuvers Sunday in the Eastern Mediterranean region, in partnership with Turkish Cyprus, which is not recognized politically by any country in the world except Turkey.

The Turkish maneuvers come only two days after the failure of negotiations between Turkey and Greece, which rejects all practices carried out by Ankara and the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party, which perpetuate the state of hostility with Europeans and impede peace efforts in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense said Saturday that the military maneuvers with Northern Cyprus will take place over a period of 5 continuous days, starting from Sunday, until next Thursday with the participation of units from the Air and Navy Forces.

Meanwhile, security tensions in the Mediterranean region have moved to a dangerous level since Turkey concluded a maritime security agreement on November 28 with the Government of National Accord, specifically with Fayez Al-Sarraj. From that moment on, the conflict in the Mediterranean was linked to the conflict in Libya, where Turkey entered with force more clearly than before.

Ankara, influential in western Libya, has become complacent and silent on the part of the Government of National Accord, whose security services have recently practiced the most brutal campaigns of repression, intimidation and silence in Tripoli after peaceful popular demonstrations calling for improvement of living conditions, the overthrow of the Presidential Council and the departure of the Government of National Accord.
