UNSMIL urges for cessation of hostilities in Libya

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) urged Friday for an immediate cessation of “hostilities” in Tajoura.

In a statement, the UNSMIL indicated that it is following with great concern the clashes with heavy weapons between two armed groups in the residential neighborhood of Tajoura, which resulted in damage to private property and endangered the lives of civilians.

UNSMIL reminded all parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law, noting that these armed clashes once again underline the urgent need for security sector reform in Libya.

The Tajoura area in Tripoli witnessed armed clashes that erupted late on Thursday night and continued until Friday morning between the Daman and Osoud Tajoura battalions of the Government of National Accord.

Before the members of the Osoud Tajoura Brigade, near the Al-Jallida Hospital in the city of Tajoura, the Daman Brigade responded to the killing of “Jaddouq” by shot two leaders of the Osoud Tajoura Brigade: “Nader al-Azraq and Ahmad Tawqa,” according to the source.

It is noteworthy that the Bir Usta Milad Road and Bifi Road were closed due to the clashes and the high intensity of confrontations between the two parties with all weapons on the area’s streets and residential neighborhoods.
