Hurghada meetings point to hopes of forming united Libyan military institution

The editor-in-chief of the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram, Asma Al-Husseini, said that there is high optimism about the meetings that are being held in the Egyptian city of Hurghada among Libyan military leaders from the east and west of the country.

Al-Husseini added to “Live” program on the channel “218News” Monday that it is hoped that the Hurghada meetings will reach a consensus between the two assembled delegations, and that they agree to form a single military force in Libya that preserves its unity, stability and security, and that the city of Sirte will be a weapon-free zone as well as a place for the next government.

International Stance

Concerning the international position on the Libyan crisis, Al-Husseini indicated that it seems that there is an international will now for unity, as the international community is well aware of the great dangers surrounding the Libyan conflict in light of the regional and international disputes over Libya.

Al-Husseini indicated that there is a strong will to exact calm in Libya with hopes it could lead to a stable situation that expresses the aspirations of all Libyans, which include seeing militias and mercenaries are being expelled, and the stopping of foreign interference that was a great threat not to the future and status of Libya alone, but to the whole region, which will be destabilized if the situation in Libya remains unstable.

Mercenaries

The editor-in-chief of the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram added that the Libyan National Army, Parliament and the neighboring countries have agreed on the need to remove the mercenaries and armed militias that threaten the entire Libyan situation and make it vulnerable to collapse.

On the position of the UN mission, Al-Husseini explained that the statements of the UN envoy to Libya Acting Stephanie Williams were clear about removing militias and mercenaries within 90 days of the agreement.

She noted that the Libyan issue is fundamental and that we must work to resolve it because the survival of the militias and mercenaries means that there will be no solution in Libya or calm or even safe situation for the displaced who suffer in the presence of mercenaries and militias who use chaos and terrorism as a means to bring the Libyan people to their knees in favor of certain parties.
