Central Bank says Libya has spent about a billion dinars in anti-coronavirus measures

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) in Tripoli issued a statement confirming that the total sums spent on responding to the Coronavirus pandemic until the end of last September amounted to about 966 million dinars, indicating in its statement that an amount of 572 million dinars was allocated to the Ministry of Health in the Government of National Accord to combat the epidemic, according to the exchanged permissions provided by the Ministry of Finance.

50 million dinars were allocated to municipalities and local councils, 95 million dinars to the military medicine apparatus, in addition to 35 million dinars for the ambulance and emergency services apparatus, 151 million dinars for the medical supply apparatus, 41 million dinars for embassies and consulates abroad, and 22 million dinars for the Ministry of Education.

Regarding the general budget, the deficit reached 21.8 billion dinars from January to September of this year, according to the Central Bulletin. As for oil and sovereign revenues, in the first nine months, they amounted to about 3.8 billion dinars.

With regard to total public spending during this period, it amounted to more than 25.6 billion dinars, as the lion’s share was for the salaries item that exceeded 16.1 billion dinars, and the management budget amounted to about 2.4 billion dinars and the support budget exceeded 4.2 billion in addition to 2.5 billion dinars for emergencies, while the money spent on development only exceeds 352 million dinars.

The statement stated that the budget deficit was covered by a loan from the CBL, amounting to 20 billion dinars, and about 1.5 billion dinars for the section of development from the foreign exchange sales revenue, in addition to the revenues collected during 2020.
